The Charcoal Carrier

A zebu cart makes its way along the RN35 in Morondava, near the western coast of Madagascar. It is 8:30 in the morning of 15 October 2018 and its load is charcoal, made by burning what is left of the nearby forests.

This is the reality of daily existence in this part of the world. To survive the local people will burn the trees to raise the small amount of money that selling charcoal brings.
